CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Five members of the Maryland men's tennis team advanced to the round of 16 in the singles draw at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (USTA/ITA) Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday. Maryland also placed three doubles teams in the round of 16.

In the singles draw, fourth-seeded senior Maros Horny, juniors Tommy Laine, David Nguyen and Sergio Wyss, and freshman Vlad Stefan will continue play Sunday morning. Horny dispatched of Navy's Calvin Mark 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and Virginia Tech's Zach Pine in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 to advance.

Nguyen knocked off two seeded players in VCU's Jaime Vazquez and Radford's Stijin Meulemans to reach the round of 16. Nguyen defeated Meulemans, the tournaments seventh seed, in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Laine and Wyss have not dropped a set in the four matches played, while Stefan bested George Mason's Jimmy Davis 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 and VCU's Camill Salomon 6-4, 6-3 to improve his fall record to 8-1.

Horny will face Filip Svensson of VCU Sunday morning. Laine will take on fifth-seeded Julen Uriguen of Virginia while Laine matches up with ninth-seeded Francisco Dias of George Washington. Wyss takes on sixth-seeded Justin Shane of Virginia. Stefan gets Old Dominion's Chris Muzalewski.

Doubles action will start Sunday afternoon with three Terp pairings in action. Horny and junior John Collins, Laine and junior Jesse Kiuru, and Stefan and junior Andy Magee will take the court.
