Maryland Men's Tennis Near Perfect on Opening Day of Navy Invitational
Sept. 12, 2008 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Maryland men's tennis team got into the swing of things Friday at its opening tournament of the fall season. The Terps were near perfect on the first day of the annual Navy Invitational winning 11 of 12 matches at the non-team scored event. All-Americans Boris Fetbroyt and Andrew Orban teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Richmond's Sami Belakhef and Michael Sommer, 8-3 before each won at singles. Orban, playing at No. 1 singles downed Sommer in straight sets (6-1, 6-0), while Fetbroyt defeated Dylan Schrode, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. Maryland junior David Kwon and senior Nickolai Nielsen also combined to win at doubles and then post singles victories. Kwon and Nielsen defeated Schrode and Sam Hyland, 8-0, at the No. 2 slot. Kwon went on the dispatch of Belakhef, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Nielsen easily downed Rafael Arana, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. The Terps will take on a split squad consisting of players from Arkansas and Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Saturday.
