Maryland Eliminated From ACC Tournament Early By Miami, 4-1

April 17, 2008

Final Stats

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 61 Maryland men's tennis team was eliminated from the ACC tournament today, with its 4-1 loss to No. 25 Miami.

The No. 10 seed Terps (10-11, 2-10) won the doubles point, but the No. 7 seeded Hurricanes (14-6, 7-4) came back to beat Maryland for the second time in the last five days.

Playing at the No. 1 position, the No. 11-ranked doubles team of Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt avenged their April 13 loss to the No. 7-ranked team of Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg, defeating the pair 8-3.

Soon after, the team of David Kwon and Amit Inbar was victorious at No. 3 doubles against Miami's Keith Crowley and Hector Nieto, 8-5, to secure the doubles point for the Terps.

The Hurricanes went on to win the four singles matches that finished, including a loss by Inbar, the No. 92-ranked singles player, as he fell to No. 5 Daniel Vallverdu, 6-3, 6-3.

Coming off a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Vivek Subramanian in his last match of the regular season, Kwon lost to Subramanian in three sets at No. 2 singles, dropping the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Terps are still hoping for a bid to the 2008 NCAA tournament which begins play May 9 at select campus sites, but Maryland is left waiting to hear from the committee until after conference tournaments have concluded.

Selections to the NCAAs will be announced on April 29.
