Terps Cruise Past BC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's tennis team won 5 of 6 singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Boston College Friday afternoon at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts. Freshman Vlad Stefan moved to No. 1 singles for the first time this season and earned a straight set victory. The Terps (4-8, 1-2 ACC) tallied victories at the first five singles spots to secure the win. In addition to Stefan's 6-2, 6-4 win over Akash Muppidi, senior Maros Horny won 6-2, 6-1 over Alex Skinner at No. 2. At No. 3, junior Sergio Wyss won his second consecutive match driving past Billy Gorkenberger, 6-1, 6-3. Junior John Collins dispatched of Philip Nelson, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 position, and junior Jesse Kiuru won a second-set tiebreaker to extend his match into third set to finish with a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win. Maryland started the day with two doubles wins. At No. 2, junior Tommy Laine and Stefan defeated Nelson and Gorkenberger, 8-2, while junior Andy Magee and Kiuru blanked Matt Wagner and Michael McGinnis, 8-0, at No. 3. The Terps play host to No. 31 Oklahoma Sunday, March 17 at noon at the Cole Field House Courts. Maryland 6, Boston College 1 Singles competition
