COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins men's tennis team continued its winning ways and improved to 3-0 with victories over UMBC and Howard in a Sunday doubleheader. The Terps were victorious over UMBC, 6-1, and downed Howard, 5-1 in the evening match.

In perhaps the most dramatic match of the afternoon, transfer Andy Magee rallied from behind in his second set to defeat UMBC's Joe Adewumi, 6-1, 6-4. After falling behind early, Magee won four straight games to seal the victory. Magee also partnered with Maros Horny to defeat UMBC's pair of Mwali Phiri and Joe Adewumi, 8-6.

In his singles match, Horny posted a convincing victory over UMBC's Cristian Hodel, 6-2, 6-2. Tommy Laine also posted an impressive win, blanking UMBC's Shane Yap, 6-0, 6-0. In addition, Laine also won against Howard's Devard Wharton, 6-2, 6-0.

John Collins came away with three victories on the day, defeating the Golden Retriever's Mwali Phiri, 6-3, 6-2, and Howard's Omar Haloui, 6-0, 6-1. Collins also won in doubles play as he partnered with Jan Surovic to defeat the UMBC tandem of Cristian Hodel and Gaulthier Berrett, 8-3.

Michiel Doornenbal, Jan Surovic and Jesse Kiuru also picked up singles victories on the day.

Maryland head coach Kyle Spencer was pleased with the perfect start to the spring dual season. "This was a fantastic weekend for us. A lot of guys got good quality matches," said Spencer. "It's always great to get as many matches in with as many quality opponents as possible with a big weekend coming up. We were able to get some rust off and see how guys would respond in certain situations."

The Terps are back in action this week, as they take on the top-ranked University of Virginia on Friday. The match begins at 5pm.
