AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Maros Horny and junior John Collins started strong for the 38th-ranked Maryland men's tennis team, but the Terps lost to 17th-ranked Texas, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

Horny and Collins, the Terps No.1 doubles team and 36th-ranked team nationally, opened the match with an 8-5 win over Texas' Soren Hess-Olesen and Alex Hillard. But Maryland did not maintain the momentum as the Longhorns won the last two doubles matches to earn the point.

"I thought the guys came out with great passion in doubles, but we just didn't execute the way we can at No. 2 and 3 doubles," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "In singles, it was a case of too little too late. We need to do a better job of taking advantage of opportunities from the first point."

At No. 2 singles, Collins took on 112th-ranked Daniel Whitehead. Whitehead came away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. The Longhorns would add victories at No. 1 and 5 singles to clinch the win. No. 3, 4 and 6 singles did not complete their matches after Texas secured the victory.

Maryland will take on 31st-ranked Michigan at 11 a.m. Sunday to wrap up the weekend.
