Mar. 1, 1997 Maryland Men's Tennis Loses to VirginiaCHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Virginia men's tennis team defeated Maryland 7-0 this evening in Atlantic Coast Conference action at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The loss was Maryland's 11th consecutive loss to Virginia. The win improved Virginia's record to 6-3 (1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference). Maryland is now 3-3 this season. The Cavaliers took the doubles point and won in straight sets in each singles position over the Terrapins. Virginia head coach Thomas Johnston juggled his line-up to give Hyon Yoo and Bear Schofield a chance to rest various minor injuries. Justin Smith handed T.J. Klier his first loss of the season. Smith prevailed 7-6, 6-4 at #3. Freshman Chris Chatham stepped into the #6 singles slot and won his first match of the spring with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Kyle Cerminara. Junior Aaron Strimban stepped into the line-up at #5 in the morning and won his third straight singles match 7-5, 6-2 over Karim Emara. Virginia 7, Maryland 0 Singles 1--Scott Lebovitz (V) def.
