The Terps swimming and diving squad returns to Eppley Recreation Natatorium Saturday for a meet against North Carolina and George Mason beginning at noon.
Terrapin seniors Dong Kim and Yelena Skalinskaya led Maryland in the pool last weekend against NC State and Duke. The pair captured individual first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 free while leading off for the top 200 and 400 free relay teams. The women's team defeated their first ACC opponent of the season, dropping NC State, 189-162. Maryland's freshmen continue to impress as well, as Ginny Glover and Alexa Hamilton each won the 200 back and 200 breast, respectively.
North Carolina heads to College Park after suffering losses on both the men's and women's side to Minnesota last weekend. Despite the loss, the Tar Heels boast the reigning ACC Swimmer of the Week, Tyler Harris. Harris (400 IM), along with Tyler Wyher (100 back) and Joe Kinderwater (1650 free) all captured ACC individual titles a year ago as the men's squad finished second behind Virginia at the ACC Championships. The Tar Heel women are also strong, returning a solid core from the 2007-08 squad that placed second at ACCs. Both squads are 1-2, defeating South Carolina, but falling to Georgia.
George Mason placed first as a combined team in the Potomac Relays to start the season. The Patriots participated in the CAA Pod Meet in their last outing, with the men's squad picking up a win against Towson and moving their record to 1-3 overall. The women are 0-4 heading into this weekend's meet.
