Junior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) will be the fifth seed in tonight's 100 free championship final thanks to an NCAA B-cut time of 44.15. The time is a personal best. Gray, who earned a silver medal in the 50 free on Thursday night, will be going for his second medal of the meet.
Also swimming in the event tonight will be senior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.), who swam a 45.20 to tie for the 12th seed overall. The swim was a personal record. He will be in the consolation final tonight.
The Terps will have three swimmers in the consolation final of the 200 breast. Junior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) is the 12th seed overall, swimming a 2:03.05. The time is a personal record by more than 4 seconds. Junior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) and freshman Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) are also in the heat, posting times of 2:03.64 and 2:04.03, respectively. Shepard's swim was also a personal record.
Senior Erik Putkonen (Marietta, Ga.) is the 11th seed in the 200 back, earning him a slot in the consolation final. Putkonen swam a 1:49.43, another personal top time. Senior Chris Starr (Ellicott City, Md.) will be in the bonus consolation final thanks to a 1:52.98, a time that is more than 2 seconds better than his previous best.
Senior Andrew Foran (Atascadero, Calif.) and sophomore Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) will both be swimming in the bonus consolation final of the 200 fly. Foran posted a 1:51.77, the fastest time put up by a Terp in the event all season. Thomasson's 1:52.65 is a personal best.
Competition resumes this afternoon at 4:30 with the swimming of the 1650 free. Tonight is the last night of the 2006 ACC Championships, and the finals will take place at 7pm at the Natatorium of the Campus Recreation Center in College Park.
