Maryland men's swimming and diving traveled to West Virginia today for a dual meet against the Mountaineers. The Terps dropped the meet to West Virginia (120-92). The men's team is now 1-4 overall this season.

For the freestyle events, senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) swam to a fourth-place finish in the 50 free (21.47). Junior Jake DiPiazza led Maryland in the 100 free, placing second with a time of 49.95. Freshman Kevin Reardon (Voorhees, N.J.) placed fourth in the 200 free establishing his new season-best time (1:47.48). Junior Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) led the Terps with a second-place swim in the 500 free (4:53.33) and freshman Chris Rouchard (Westlake, Ohio) had a second-place finish in the 1000 free (9:56.58).

Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) was the top finisher for Maryland in the 200 butterfly with a second-place finish (1:59.64). Freshman Aleksandar Damjanic (Zagreb, Croatia) swam to second place in the 200 backstroke (1:58.43) and senior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) finished fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:17.12).

The Terps dominated the diving events on the men's side. Junior Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) claimed the first-place position in 1 meter diving with 286.20 points with freshman Patrick Meck (Rockville, Md.) in second with 257.03 points. Maryland also claimed the top-two places in 3 meter diving with Hock in first with 244.05 points and Meck in second with 241.73 points.

 

 

The afternoon ended with the 400 free relay and a top finish by the team of Damjanic, Gray, Greene and sophomore Andrew Weinert (Allentown, Pa.) with a 3:11.28.

The next meet for the Terps will take place January 6, 2007 in North Miami, Fla. where Maryland will take on Iowa, Old Dominion and Florida International.
