Maryland Wins 2011 Terp Cup Title
Nov. 19, 2011 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's swimming and diving team recorded a massive 1,260 points to capture the 2011 Terp Cup at Eppley Recreation Natatorium. The Terps swept the 200 breast, 200 back and 200 fly as David Speese (1:59.68), Andrew Relihan (1:46.89) and Sean Stewart (1:47.78) touched the wall first in each event, respectively. John Hauser took second in the 100 free (44.43) and Alex Spina led the Terps with a second place performance in the 1650 free (15.34.47). He was followed by teammate Matthew Tynan who took third (15:47.57). Raymond Cswerko (2:03.80) and Anderson Sloan (2:06.33) picked up points in the finals of the 200 breast with second and eighth place showings, respectively. Matt Meserole (1:47.48) and Bradley Dillon (1:48.39) helped the Terps complete a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 back. Maryland recorded five of the top eight finishes in the 200 fly. Jeff Winters (second - 1:48.57), Kyle Madley (third - 1:51.67), Spencer Sterling (fifth - 1:51.68) and Tynan (eighth - 1:57.40) followed Stewart in the event. "They did such a good job from top to bottom and they kept getting better and kept building on it," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "They really focused. It was a great experience six out of six sessions. They were awesome."
