Honored Terps
The Maryland men’s swimming and diving program has boasted an incredible 61 Atlantic Coast Conference champions, including five-time champion Kirk Sanocki (1981, ‘82, ‘83)and four-time winners Bob Kohl (1959, ‘60), Gary Goodner (1970, ‘72)and Mike Lambert (1986, ’87).
Maryland swimmers and divers have also set the pace for entire championships, as Janika Biyanwila, Kevin Burke (2), and Mike Noonan were crowned ACC Most Valuable Divers. Lambert nabbed ACC Championship Meet Most Valuable Player honors in 1987.
The Terps have also had much success as a team, capturing seven ACC Regular Season titles and five ACC Championship crowns.
Recently several Terps have landed on the podium at the championships. Then-freshman Andrew Relihan finished third in the 200 IM to lead Maryland as it played host to the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships in 2009.
In addition, Maryland has had seven All-Americans, including two-time honorees Lambert and Noonan.
