Aug. 8, 1997 Maryland Ranked 13th in NSCAA Preseason PollCullen and Kirk Named to World University Games RosterCOLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland menıs soccer team, the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions, is ranked No. 13 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Terps finished the 1996 campaign with a 14-6-3 record, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Terps brought home their first-ever ACC Championship after they defeated Virginia, 2-0, in Charlottesville. Senior Leo Cullen, a 1997 National Player of the Year candidate, and sophomore goalkeeper Andy Kirk have been selected to participate in the 1997 World University Games which will take place in Italy. Cullen and Kirk will miss all of preseason practice, and will likely miss the Terpsıseason opener against Adelphi and Hofstra.
