COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- For the second straight year, Maryland forward Jason Garey is among the 15 players selected as semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Year award for Division I competition. The award is regarded as college soccer's version of the Heisman Trophy. The 15 candidates were selected by a nominating committee of Division I college coaches.

Garey backed up his record-breaking 2004 season with another stellar campaign this year. He leads the nation in points per game (2.33) and his 20 goals this season rank second in the NCAA. Eleven of Garey's tallies have come against ranked opponents.

The 2005 ACC Offensive Player of the Year became Maryland's all-time leader in goals and points earlier this season. He has 58 goals and 19 assists for 135 points in his career at College Park. His six game-winning goals this year are a career high.

In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Garey is also an Academic All-American. He will graduate in December with a degree in finance.

The winner of the Hermann Trophy will be determined in voting by NSCAA Division I member coaches. Three men's and three women's finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy will be announced at the 2005 Men's College Cup on Dec. 9. The finalists will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, for the announcement of the winner at a press conference which will be telecast live by ESPNews. Both winners will be presented the prestigious crystal soccer ball trophy at a banquet later that evening.
