Taylor Twellman Receives Second Straight Team Of The Week Selection
Oct. 20, 1999 COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- - Hermann Trophy candidate Taylor Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) has been selected by Soccer America for its Men's Collegiate Team of the Week for the second week in a row. Twellman scored a goal and was credited with two assists in Maryland's 3-1 win over George Mason last Wednesday, in addition to netting the game-winning header in overtime to beat William & Mary on Saturday night. The Soccer America honor is one of many the sophomore forward has received this year. Twellman was the ACC Player of the Week for his performances against Monmouth and NC State during the week of Sept. 15. That week, he recorded one goal and one assist, both in the NC State 2-0 victory. Twellman was also named to the all-tournament teams at both the Fila Preseason College Kick-off and the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic, which kicked-off the regular season. A letters and sciences major, the Maryland Athletic Department also named Twellman the Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 30. A candidate for the Missouri Athletic Club's Collegiate Soccer Player of the Year Award, Twellman leads the Terps in scoring this year with eight goals and five assists. He has five game-winning goals this season, and is approaching several of Maryland's career charts in just his sophomore year. Twellman is also second in the ACC in goals-scored and points-scored.
Twellman and the No. 7 Terrapins are back in action Wednesday afternoon against American and return home for the first time in three weeks against No. 6 Wake Forest on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
