CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.- - The Maryland men's soccer team (10-8-0, 1-5 ACC) lost a 2-0 decision to Virginia (13-4-1, 5-1 ACC) on the road Friday night. Sophomore forward Ryan Gibbs scored the gamewinner for the Cavs at the 63:14 mark. The game marked the final regular season contest for both teams.

The game, hard-fought by both teams with many good scoring opportunities each way, remained a scoreless until the 64th minute when Gibbs scored on a counterattack to put the Cavaliers up 1-0. Alecko Eskandarian and Steve Totten were also credited with assists on the play.

Virginia made it 2-0 on a Sheldon Barnes breakaway goal at 75:17. Eskandarian got credit for the set-up again, his second assist of the day.

The game had all the markers of a Maryland/Virginia game, with physical play resulting in 21 Virginia fouls to the Terps' 14. Shots were 8-2, in favor of the Cavaliers. Virginia goalie David Comfort got the win and recorded one save. Terrapin goalie Christian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) had four saves in the losing effort.

The ACC Tournament at Wake Forest is up for both team's next. Maryland will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed. Their opponent and game time will be set by Sunday night due to other ACC games still to be played on Saturday night.
