Oct. 25, 2008
RALEIGH, N.C. - Maryland sophomore forward Jason Herrick scored two goals to pace the sixth-ranked Terps men's soccer team over NC State, 2-1, on Saturday night at NC State Soccer Stadium in ACC action.
Herrick netted both scores in the first half and doubled his goal output for the year, moving his mark to four in 2008. Jeremy Hall was credited with the first assist three minutes into the contest when Herrick headed the ball off a cross in the middle of the box. Matt Kassel fed Herrick for the second score at 24:35 off a free kick.
Freshman keeper Zac MacMath finished the night with two saves en route to his ninth consecutive win.
Following Saturday's festivities, Maryland moves to 13-3-0 and 4-2-0 in conference action while NC State falls to 5-8-1 and 1-5-1 in the ACC. The victory was Maryland's sixth-straight.
"This was a great road win for us in the ACC," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "NC State is a much, much better team than their record indicates and is very organized with some outstanding individual players.
"Jason Herrick had a strong game and continues to get better every time out."
Maryland again outshot its opponent, holding a 9-8 margin over the Wolfpack.
Maryland has the work-week off from competition before rolling into Charlottesville on Friday night for a pivotal ACC battle at Virginia at 7:30 p.m.
