Oct. 12, 2010
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman Sunny Jane scored his first two collegiate goals as No. 4 Maryland topped Lehigh, 3-0, on the road Tuesday night.
Jane, a key reserve midfielder for Maryland (8-2-1, 3-1-1 ACC), notched the game-winning score in the 40th minute after a slow offensive start for the Terps. Clinging to a one-goal lead, senior Billy Cortes provided Maryland with an insurance goal with a strike to the right post at 74:16. Jane delivered the knockout punch when he chipped in a cross from Casey Townsend less than two minutes later.
Lowe's Senior CLASS finalist Jason Herrick tied a career-high with two assists. Doug Rodkey, Patrick Mullins and Townsend all added an assist each as the Terrapin offense mustered 22 shots on the evening. Maryland's defense was once again stellar, blanking its fourth consecutive opponent while allowing a mere six Mountain Hawk shots.
With the convincing win against Lehigh (4-5-2) Tuesday night, Maryland has now outscored its foes 13-0 in its last four outings.
"This was a very good win against a tough Lehigh team," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "Our team defending was excellent and it was nice to continue our solid attacking rhythm."
Maryland returns to College Park to kickoff a three-game homestand, beginning with a conference battle with Clemson Saturday.
