Men's Soccer Falls To Duke, 3-0

DURHAM, N.C.óThe No. 1 Maryland (6-2, 2-1 ACC) menís soccer team lost a 3-0 ACC battle Saturday to No. 4 Duke (5-0-1, 1-0-1) on the road before 2,400 fans. The loss broke a six-game win streak, including five straight shutouts before the loss to the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils kicked off their Homecoming weekend early, scoring on their first shot of the game at 37:13 when Hermann Trophy candidate Ali Curtis scored off a cross from Peter Gail. Freshman Adam Guren was also credited with an assist on the play.
The two teams would continue the rough physical play characteristic of the ACC until the half with Duke still up 1-0. It would not take the Devils long after the break to widen the margin, as they found the net again just 1:45 into the half. It was Demetrio Sanchez who notched the second score for Duke with the assist by Scott Noble.
Noah Lewkowitz capped off the Duke win with a goal at 83:00 to make the score 3-0, Blue Devils. Kevin Sakuda was credited with the assist.
The Blue Devils accumulted 22 fouls on the day to the Terps 13. Maryland more than doubled Duke up on corners kicks, 9-4. Shots were practically even between the two teams with the Terps tallying nine shots to the Blue Devils ten.
Marylandís next game is Wednesday against Howard. The home contest begins at 7:00 p.m. on Ludwig Field.
