September 16, 1998
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman Taylor Twellman scored two goals to lead the Maryland Terrapins to a 2-1 win against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday evening at Ludwig Field. Maryland senior Keith Beach totaled two assists to bring his career total to 24, one behind Maryland's all-time assist leader Eberhard Klein. Maryland improves to 3-2 overall while Mount St. Mary's falls to 2-2-1.
The two teams failed to score in the first half after having plenty of opportunities. Maryland outshot the Mount 12 to two in the first half. Twellman scored his first goal of the match at the 50 minute mark off a Beach-Pierre Venditti assisted ball, as he took the cross ball and headed it into the left side of the net. Twellman notched his second goal of the game, and his fifth of the season, at the 71 minute mark after Beach passed him the ball to the center of the box and he headed it in.
Mount St. Mary's scored at the 84 minute mark when Duncan Gladwin took a pass from Chris Hammond and Chris Hallatt, broke away from his defender, and sailed the long ball to the right corner of the net.
Maryland's Christian Lewis recorded one first-half save while the Mount's Brian Crum totaled 10. It marked the fourth straight consecutive win Maryland has posted against the Mount.
