Aug. 16, 2008

Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - The No. 8 Maryland men's soccer team battled Virginia Commonwealth to a 0-0 tie on Saturday night in preseason action on the road in Richmond, Va.

The Terps and the Rams played two 35 minute periods before drawing to a 0-0 tie following the 20 minute closing period.

"It was a great opportunity for us to play against a quality opponent," Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "We started slow but really got it going later in the match.

"We had some good opportunities to score late in the game."

Maryland's best scoring chance came with four minutes remaining when Drew Yates (Severna Park, Md./DeMatha) had a one-on-one down the right sideline, but VCU goalkeeper Andrew Dyskstra deflected the shot just wide of the goal.

Saturday's match featured Maryland's No. 1-ranked recruiting class and its first taste of collegiate soccer action.

The Terps round out their preseason schedule with a friendly against South Florida on Friday, Aug. 22. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
