Terps Indoor Track And Field Begins Season Strong

LANDOVER, Md. - Maryland men's indoor track and field team officially began their season on Saturday by hosting the 2002 Maryland Invitational. The meet, held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex, saw the Terps post several impressive individual finishes. One such highlight was seen from junior Harold Manning, who turned in a second place finish in the 200 meter dash finals with a time of 22.49. In the mile run, junior Mike Prada won his heat by posting a time of 4:26.94, however he came in fourth overall. Coming in close behind him in second place in the same heat was junior Doug Allen, with a 4:32.98 to take seventh overall. In the second set of the mile run, sophomore Florent Groberg turned in an impressive second place finish with a 4:22.04, and fellow sophomore Mike Fleg finished in third with a 4:24.02. Sophomore Rob Frelow continued to dominate in the 400 meter run event by finishing in third with a time of 49.40. It was junior Eric Topor who paced the team in the 800 meter run finals, with a 2:08.21 to take fifth. In the 5,000 meter run, sophomore Natty Zola won third with a time of 16:15.92. In the jumps and throws areas, two lone Terps represented their school well. Senior Adrian Nelson won fourth in the high jump with a 2.00 meter effort, and sophomore Beau Fay won third in the shot put with a 12.89 meter toss. Fay also captured second in the weight throw competition with a 14.27 meter throw. Next up for the Terps is a long winter break of practice, followed by the Jan. 4 Terrapin Invitational, where the team will return to the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex to host the event. |
