Trio Of Terp Seniors Slated To Play In USILA North/South All-Star Game

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland seniors Ryan Clarke, Michael Phipps and Steve Whittenberg will play in the 66th Annual USILA North/South Game, the premier collegiate all-star event today, May 25, at Calvert Hall High School in Baltimore. The Division I-II game is scheduled for a 5:45 start, following the Division III game, which is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Clarke, a native of Long Beach, N.Y., is considered one of the nation's top long-stick midfielders. This season he finished second on the Terps with 26 caused turnovers and was fourth on the squad with 38 groundballs.

Phipps, a native of Annapolis, Md., had his best season for the Terrapins as a senior, leading the team in points and goals with 50 and 28, respectively. He finished the year with a phenomenal .394 shooting percentage and picked up 37 groundballs, while averaging less than one turnover per game.

Whittenberg, a native of Springfield, Va., is a two-time All-America defenseman. Regarded as one of the top on-ball defenders in the country he led the Terps with 32 caused turnovers in 2007 and also finished the season with 32 groundballs.
