Men's Lacrosse Routs Villanova in Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior midfielder Kevin Pasqualina scored a career-high three goals as the No. 6 Maryland Terrapins opened the season with a convincing 18-5 victory over Villanova. Pasqualina was one of 12 different Maryland goal scorers on the afternoon.
After leading 7-3 at the half, the Terps exploded with 11 goals in the final 30 minutes of play. Maryland dominated every statistical category, including a 59 to 17 edge in shots and 21-6 advantage in faceoffs.
Other multiple goal scorers for Maryland included junior Scott Hochstadt, sophomore Brian Zeller and freshmen Jon Kemezis and Andrew Combs. Kemezis and Hochstadt each also recorded an assist.
Hochstadt opened the scoring eight minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. Although Villanova hung close to the Terps for most of the first half, goals by Zeller, and seniors Bill Ruhl and Andrew Whipple built a 7-3 lead going into halftime.
David D'Amico led Villanova with two goals and Justin Loonie, Andrew Bogle and John McTigue each notched one.
In goal for Maryland, Kevin Healy had six saves in his second career start.
Other scorers for the Terps included seniors Frank Radin and Matt Hahn, juniors Erik Osberg and Marc Sullivan and freshman Chris Malone. Ruhl and sophomore Marcus LaChapelle each recorded two assists.
Maryland moves to 1-0 on the season, as Villanova falls to 0-1. The Terrapins will next play at Duke on Saturday, Feb. 28 at noon. Their next home match will be on March 7 at 1 p.m. in Byrd Stadium versus Towson University.
