2003 Update: On Harper: Senior captain … one of the nation’s premier long-stick defensive midfielders … three-year starter as the Terps’ long-stick defensive midfielder … a very savvy and experienced player … an extremely competitive player who plays with tremendous enthusiasm … has football mentality and is not afraid to get physical with his opponents … excellent off-the-ball and good on-the-ball defender … expected to draw some time on face-offs … is the first Terp native born and bred in Ohio to serve as a team captain. As a junior (2002): Played in all 13 games … had started 27 games in row on the face-off wing prior to Senior Night vs. Yale (4/26), as he started the other 12 in 2002 … among the team leaders in groundballs with 34 … had four groundballs at Duke (3/2) … won three of four face-offs at Bucknell (3/12), along with 3 groundballs … scored second career goal at UMBC (5/4) in finale in dramatic fashion as he raced down the field and scored … member of the ACC and Maryland honor rolls for the second year in a row. As a sophomore (2001): Played in all 16 games as the Terps’ starting long-stick defensive midfielder .. started all 16 games as a face-off wing man … fourth on the team in groundballs with 47 … took 17 face-offs with the long-pole during the season … major contributor to Terps’ defense, which allowed just 6.31 goals per game, ranking second in the nation … grabbed four groundballs vs. Duke (3/4), as the Terps shut down the Blue Devils, holding their attack to five goals … career-high seven groundballs against North Carolina (3/24) … also grabbed four groundballs against Bucknell (3/27), Virginia (3/31) in the ACC semifinals, at Yale (4/28) and Towson (5/20) in the NCAA quarterfinals … member of the ACC and Maryland honor rolls. As a freshman (2000): Played in all 16 games as a long-stick middie … contributed with 18 groundballs … scored his first goal in his first college game against Mount St. Mary’s (2/27) … played great defense throughout the remainder of the season by forcing many turnovers … had numerous bone-crunching hits … scooped up season-high four groundballs in the ACC title game against Virginia (4/23). Before Maryland: Lettered in lacrosse for three seasons at Upper Arlington High School in Ohio … compiled a 61-1 record over three years under coach Ted Wolford … named Ohio State Player of the Year and Midwest Region Player of the Year in 1999 … played in several all-star games following outstanding senior season … also lettered in football for three years at linebacker … earned All-Ohio Capital Conference as a senior in football.
