May 5, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Chris Gold on Monday became the sixth University of Maryland men's golfer to be named a first-team selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf team. Gold, a native of Haddonfield, N.J., led Maryland with a 73.1 scoring average this year, ranking fifth on the single-season list since 2000. He won three individual tournaments this season, including the Adams Cup of Newport, the Cuthbert Cup and the George Washington Invitational. He is the first player since 2001 to win three individual tournaments in a single season. He is the first All-ACC pick for the Terrapins since Corey Brigham earned the honor in 2002. Gold was one of 12 players selected in the voting by the league's 11 coaches. Wake Forest's Webb Simpson, who won the ACC individual title, was voted the league's Player of the Year, while Kevin O'Connell of North Carolina was the ACC Freshman of the Year. Florida State's Trey Jones was the ACC Coach of the Year after directing the Seminoles to the team title at the league championship. All-ACC Men's Golf Team
