Terps Add McCain to 2012 Class
May 2, 2012
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland Director of Intercollegiate Golf Jason Rodenhaver announced the addition of Andrew McCain to the 2012 class Wednesday. McCain joins Tom Harris who committed to the Terps in November.
"We look for Andrew to be an impact player for us," said Rodenhaver. "He's got all the talent in the world and certainly projects to be a top of the lineup guy. Coach Rattan did a great job recruiting Andrew. As a staff, we're certainly excited to add Andrew to our 2012 recruiting class."
McCain, who played the majority of his high school career in Australia, attended Brisbane Boys College to cultivate his swing following a one-year stint at Centennial High School in Pueblo, Colo., in which he helped the Bulldogs to the 4A state title in 2008.
In 2011, McCain returned to full-time action in the United States and captured the title at the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) event at IMG Academies Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, Fla., with a 2-over 146 (74-72). His performance earned him GolfWeek Player of the Week honors.
McCain, a 2011 FCWT third-team All-American, qualified for the 2011 United States Golf Association (USGA) Amateur Championship by carding an even-par 144 (72-72) to finish second at Cypress Run Golf Club in Tarpon Springs, Fla., in July. He followed that performance with a 27th place finish at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship.
In June of 2011, McCain fired a 7-under 137 (67-70) to finish second at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo., to qualify for the USGA Junior Amateur Championship.
McCain placed fifth at the Middle Atlantic Amateur Golf Championship at Lakewood Golf Club in Rockville, Md., in September.
McCain currently resides in Minneapolis, Minn., with his father, John, and his mother, Valerie. He has two siblings, Natalie and Matthew.
