Shin Continues Consistent Play for Terps

LOVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Donnie Shin posted an even-par total of 216 to tie for 24th and lead University of Maryland finishers Tuesday at the Xavier Invitational men's golf tournament played at the Oasis Golf Club. Shin, who has been the Terps' second-leading scorer in events throughout the fall, tied for 24th individually in the 104-player field. He had rounds of 73-71-72 on the par-72 layout. As a team, Maryland finished 13th in the team standings with an 878 total. The Terps shot 292 in the final two rounds. Eastern Kentucky won the team standings at 846, with Marquette in second at 851 and Campbell third at 857. Also for Maryland, senior Chris Gold tied for 43rd at 221 after a closing-round 72 on Tuesday, with freshman John Popeck tying for 57th at 223. Joseph Rice tied for 69th at 226 after a 71 on Tuesday, with Tom Hanna posting a 227 total and a tie for 74th. Mike Van Sickle of Marquette blistered the course with rounds of 64-68-67 for a 199 total and the individual victory. He won by eight strokes over Nathan Wine of Toledo, who also opened with a 64 but shot 70 and 73 in the final two rounds. Maryland plays next at the Bridgestone Intercollegiate on Oct. 26 and 27 in Greensboro, N.C. TEAM STANDINGS
