ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Newcomers Andrew Kay and Donnie Shin joined Chris Gold by posting top-20 individual finishes on Sunday to lead the University of Maryland to a fourth-place finish in the team standings at the Navy Fall Invitational men's golf tournament.

Kay, a freshman from Pittsford, N.Y., fired a final-round 75 to finish at 147 and place 15th individually for the Terps in his collegiate debut. Shin, a freshman from nearby Columbia, Md., had a 73 for Maryland to finish at 148 and in 16th place.

Chris Gold, a transfer who sparked Maryland in the Spring 2007 semester, had Maryland's best round of the day with a 72 to finish at 149 and a tie for 17th place.

As a team, Maryland shot 294 and finished with a 595 total. The Terrapins were only five shots out of the third-place finish of Delaware and only six shots behind host Navy. NC State won the team competition at 566, winning by 23 shots over the Midshipmen and finishing with the only team score under par in the 17-team field.

Also for Maryland, Tom Hanna had a 74 to finish at 152 and tie for 31st, while Brendan Tracy had a 156 to tie for 52nd.

Three Terrapins played as individuals in the local event, with Jake Daly tying for 64th at 158, senior J.J. Occi in a tie for 69th at 159 and Adam Cohn placing 79th at 166.

Maryland will play next at the Adams Cup Invitational in Newport, R.I., on Sept. 24 and 25.
