University of Maryland sophomore punter Brooks Barnard was named an honorable mention All-America by the Football News for his play in 2000.

Barnard (Arnold, Md.) finished the season fourth in the NCAA and second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in punting with a 44.7-yard average. He knocked eight punts inside the 20-yard line and had a total of 12 of over 50 yards including an 85-yarder against Temple that was three yards short of the school record.

With his 44.7-yard average, Barnard also set a school record for single-season punting average, breaking the record of 43.8 set by Scott Milanovich in 1993. In addition, Barnard is on pace to shatter the 45-year old Maryland career record of 41.8 yards set by Bill Walker (`53-55) as the junior-to-be currently has a career mark of 43.5 yards per punt.
