The University of Maryland has developed a comprehensive parking plan to accommodate the University's academic class schedule and the needs of our football fans.

General Information-As of Oct. 1, 2005

  • Parking lots will be open for entrance at 4:00 p.m. AFTER LOTS OPEN, NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED ON CAMPUS WITHOUT A CAMPUS OR FOOTBALL PERMIT. THERE WILL BE NO GAME-DAY CASH PARKING ANYWHERE ON CAMPUS.
  • Fans are encouraged to arrive on campus between 5:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Byrd Stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
  • Classes will be held, making it necessary for students to park in lots that are normally dedicated to football fans during a Saturday football game.
  • AVOID THE ROUTE 1 BELTWAY EXIT. Fans are encouraged to use alternative routes (see additional page) from the Beltway, including New Hampshire Avenue (Exit 28B), Kenilworth Avenue (Exit 23), or from the Baltimore-Washington Parkway to Greenbelt Road (Route 193 West).
  • Day-of-game parking is PERMIT ONLY.
  • Metro will be open until 1:30 a.m. (Friday morning). We encourage all fans to use rail and shuttle systems to save time and avoid problems. The last trains will leave the College Park station at 1:33 a.m.
  • Please listen to 1640-AM for specific stadium parking and traffic information.
  • Parking on Route 193 (University Blvd.) will be allowed except on the median. Please use designated crosswalks to cross Route 193.
  • Friends and family are encouraged to meet off-campus and proceed to the game in one vehicle. This will help ensure that parking is available for students and faculty attending classes and for football fans attending the game.
  • Fans without permits hanging from their rear-view mirror will be directed toward the College Park Metro station for parking, where they can board a free ShuttleUM Quick Bus toward the stadium.

    Terrapin Club Members with numbered Lot Z/1, Lot 1b, Lot 1d , Lot AA, and SDG permits

  • A space will be held for all fans with Lot Z, AA, 1b, 1d and SDG permits until kickoff, as with all home games.
  • While the Department of Transportation Services will make every effort to hold the assigned-numbered space, it cannot be guaranteed for this Thursday night game.

    Lot 1, 4L, PP*, 9b, 9c, 11c, RDG Terrapin Club Reserved Permits

  • The above lots will be used by students and staff before 3:30 p.m.
  • All lots will become "exit only" for students after 4:00 p.m. to provide sufficient parking for football fans.
  • All permit holders must follow the directions of the uniformed parking attendants to the first available space.
  • One parking space per permit.
  • Permit holders cannot "save" parking spaces for friends. Permit holders wishing to park together must arrive together on campus.

    Game-Day Mowatt Lane Garage, Comcast, and Metro Permits

  • To minimize travel time, it is important to follow the suggested routes and park in your designated area. Deviations from the traffic plan will result in prolonged driving times.
  • Lots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

    RECOMMENDED EXPRESS ROUTES TO USE ON GAME DAY

    Metro Parking Express Route #1

    1. Take Rt. 95 North into Maryland

    2. Take Exit 23/ Rt. 201 "Kenilworth Avenue Bladensburg Greenbelt"

    3. Proceed South on 201 in the direction of "Greenbelt Road and Bladensburg"

    4. After 2 miles, turn right onto Paint Branch Parkway

    5. Metro permits turn left on River Rd. and follow the signs to the Metro parking garage

    6. Take Quick Bus to the football game.

    OR.....

    Metro Parking Express Route #2

    1. Take 295 (Baltimore/Washington Pkwy) South or North to 193 Greenbelt Road West

    2. Follow 193 West approximately 1 mile and turn left onto Kenilworth Ave.

    3. After 2 miles, turn right onto Paint Branch Parkway

    4. Metro permits, turn left on River Rd. and follow signs to the Metro parking garage

    5. Take Quick Bus to the football game.

    METRO PARKING NO TAILGATING POLICIES

  • No "HOT" Tailgating of any kind at any of WMATA's facilities including parking garages or surface areas: no grills, no open flames.
  • NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES of any kind at any of WMATA's facilities including parking garages or surface areas. MD state law explicitly prohibits open alcohol containers on public property.
  • Sealed Alcohol containers, food, and small grills may be transported on UM Shuttle Quickbusses, at the Driver's discretion. OPEN ALCOHOL on the Quickbusses will result in EXPULSION OF THE OFFENDING INDIVIDUAL FROM THE BUS.
  • Port-o-lets will be placed around the metro area at the surface lot directly across Paint Branch Parkway, or at the Patapsco Building 1 block east of Metro also on Paint Branch Parkway.

    Mowatt Garage Parking Express Route #1

    1. Take I-95 South to the Capital Beltway East (I-495)

    2. I-95 South will merge to the left, joining I-495

    3. Take Exit 23/ Rt.201 "Kenilworth Avenue Bladensburg Greenbelt"

    4. Proceed South on 201 in the direction of "Greenbelt Road and Bladensburg"

    5. After 2 miles, turn right onto Paint Branch Parkway, go straight.

    6. At Rt. 1 - Mowatt permits go left on Rt. 1 South.

    7. At the Guilford Road intersection, turn right.

    8. Follow the signs to parking attendants at Mowatt Lane Garage on your right.

    Mowatt Garage Parking Express Route #2

    1. Take 295 (Baltimore/Washington Pkwy) South or North to 193 Greenbelt Road West

    2. Follow 193 West approximately 1 mile and turn left onto Kenilworth Ave.

    3. After 2 miles, turn right onto Paint Branch Parkway

    4. Follow Paint Brach to Route 1

    5. Turn left onto Route 1

    6. Turn right on Guilford Road

    7. Follow the signs to parking attendants at Mowatt Lane Garage on your right.

    Comcast Parking Express Route #1

    1. Baltimore/Washington Pkwy South or North to 193/Greenbelt Road

    2. Take a left off the exit and follow signs onto 193 West/Greenbelt Road

    3. Follow 193 West/Greenbelt Road for approximately 4 miles

    4. Comcast permits turn left onto Paint Branch Drive

    5. Officials will direct you to the next available parking spot

    OR....

    Comcast Parking Express Route #2

    1. Take I-95 South or North to the Capital Beltway East (I-495)

    2. I-95 South will merge to the left, joining I-495

    3. Take Exit 23/ Rt.201 "Kenilworth Avenue Bladensburg Greenbelt"

    6. Follow police direction straight to Campus Drive.

    7. On campus, make first right on Paint Branch Drive, and immediate right into Lot XX1.
