SIGNING DAY CENTRAL
Feb. 2, 2005 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head football coach Ralph Friedgen announced today the signing of 24 recruits for the 2005 season. This year's class - which rivals last year's class as one of the best in school history -- features one quarterback, one tailback, four wide receivers, three offensive linemen, six defensive linemen, four linebackers, one defensive back and four players who are listed as possibilities on either side of the ball. "I am very happy with this year's class," said Friedgen. "It is a class that fills a lot of our needs. We are always looking to improve our speed and there are a lot of kids in this class that can run and will also compete on our track team. We were also looking to improve our depth on the offensive and defensive line as well as at linebacker and I think we were able to accomplish that." The 2004 class of signees features some of the most high-profile recruits in Maryland history. Nearly every player in this year's class was an all-region selection by either PrepStar or SuperPrep magazine. There were four PrepStar All-Americans; seven SuperPrep All-Americans; and four players listed in the top 25 nationally at their position by ESPN.com's Tom Lemming. Notably, SuperPrep has three Terp signees (Wiseman, Allen and McCollough) listed among the nation's top 26 defensive backs. The class again sticks to the guidelines Friedgen laid out in his first year in College Park as the Mid-Atlantic region is well represented (10 players from the state of Maryland, one from Virginia), while top players from all over the country have also signed on with the Terrapins. Also represented are the states of Florida (4), New Jersey (4), California (1), Georgia (1), Massachussetts (1), New Hampshire (1) and Ohio (1). Signing Day Log: Signing Day Schedule:
