Postgame Quotes
On the game:
"We played very well defensively. We showed a lot of heart. We played a very good game defensively, but one play. It was a missed coverage. That never should have happened. Special teams wise we played very well. Offensively, I don't think we did a good job of coaching. I didn't think we did a good job, we executed our game plan in the first quarter and then we didn't do it afterward. When that happens you know you have to look and say how good a job you did communicating that and getting it done? So I'll take the hit there. We've got to be better. I have to be better at that. I think a big play of the game was not catching that punt (in the third quarter). It could have changed field position. Our defense did a great job of hanging in there and only allowing a field goal after that.
"We had a lot of miscues along the way. They do some good things defensively. We didn't do as good a job in blocking the edges like we had earlier in the game. And I knew that was going be a problem. And then we missed some pickups in pass protection. We just didn't play as well as we're capable of playing, up front and everywhere really. I thought Keon Lattimore ran well.
On Jordan Steffy's performance this week:
"He didn't see things as well. I think he started predetermining things and looking. There were some things that I thought were wide open - to assume that this guy is going to be open on this (particular) coverage. I saw it during practice and he'll see it in film and hopefully he'll learn from it. He did some good things too. I don't want to say that he did all bad things. He's a competitor, he's a feisty guy. I think he's a really good leader, and you have to go through this like they all do until they understand that you can't assume anything. You have to see what the defense presents and I thought he got off things a little early. I just think when he sees it he'll learn from it."
On concerns with the offense:
"I think we're better than what we showed. This is a tough environment. You come down here there's 7,000 people in the stands you take the first two drives and go through them like it's nothing. Human nature has a tendency to relax. I don't relax. Most people do. And I told them that on the sideline and it's like you can't do anything about it. I kick myself. I was gonna go for the fourth-and-two. We had the wind. Obi (Egekeze) has been kicking some tough field goals (in practice). I thought if he kicked the 52-yarder, it would give him tremendous confidence. It would have made it 19 nothing. Of course, he misses it and it gives them good field position. I think that helped them get down there and score. Once they got the touchdown there was a game because they had some momentum. We were getting tired and it's a very humid night."
On the inspired play of Florida International:
"I think it says a lot for them. I think it says a lot for their coaches. They're trying to build a program here. The kids play with a lot of enthusiasm. I thought they played with more spirit tonight than they even did last week. But (Happy Valley) can intimidate you."
Maryland Senior Defensive Lineman Carlos Feliciano
On getting a convincing road win:
"I believe we did. We didn't put up as many points as we'd like but defensively I think we did a real good job. We showed a lot of heart. We were put in a lot of tough situations different circumstances but we came through. We prevailed."
On the idea that the Terps let up jumping out to an early 16-0 lead:
"I think a little towards the end of the first quarter. We got up so quick and it looked like we were going to dominate the whole game. I think we might have let up a little. I don't think it was too much. But I think once we saw that they weren't just going let us roll over them, that we came back to our senses and showed that we have to play our toughest.
On getting up for the game with small crowd:
"I don't think it was tough to get up. The thing that helped me out was we had a lot of Maryland fans out there. It wasn't that hard to get up for the game considering they almost beat us last year and it was so close."
Maryland Senior Running Back Keon Lattimore
On playing in the Orange Bowl where he say his brother, Ray Lewis, play while at the University of Miami:
"I just approached it as any other game. But it definitely had a little more meaning behind it. I grew up in this place. And I've been in this stadium numerous amounts of times, and I watched my older brother play. So, I just basically took it like any other game. But I was definitely fired up."
On Florida International's comeback:
"We've been in a similar situation, but we didn't panic. We knew we were going to face a little adversity like with any game. We just got to fight."
Maryland Junior Quarterback Jordan Steffy
On the Florida International defense:
"They brought everything. They brought every pressure they could bring. In the first half I think we did a little bit better in picking things up. They literally blitzed every possible person they could blitz. We got the win. I just care about winning."
On the FIU blitz packages:
"You can anticipate them. But they were doing a pretty good job of disguising. They would show on one side and come in the opposite. They did a good job."
