BALTIMORE, Md. -

Quick hits: Maryland improved to 72-44-2 all-time in season-openers, including a 7-3 mark under Ralph Friedgen...The Terps have won six of their last seven openers... With the win, Maryland improved to 7-14 all-time against Navy.

Impressive first drive: Maryland's first drive went eight plays for 59 yards, lasting 4:27 and resulting in a touchdown. The Terps rushed on all eight plays, with Da'Rel Scott and Jamarr Robinson leading the way. Scott had five rushes for 36 yards including a 5-yard touchdown run while Robinson rushed twice for 18 yards.

Quick impact: Joe Vellano, who was touted by coaches throughout the spring and fall camps for his playmaking ability, made a key play on Navy's first drive. With Navy at Maryland's 11-yard line and on third down, Vellano sacked quarterback Ricky Dobbs for a four-yard loss. The Midshipmen missed the ensuing field goal.

Run Davin run: Davin Meggett's 67-yard scamper in the first quarter was the longest run of the junior's career. It was also Maryland's longest run since Darrius Heyward-Bey had a 76-yard run on 9/27/08 against Clemson. The Terps' longest run last season was a 48-yarder by Da'Rel Scott on Sept. 19 against MTSU. Meggett totaled 105 yards in the game, the first 100-yard game of his career. His previous career high was 86 against North Carolina on 11/15/08.

Goal-line stands: The Terps had two key goal-line stands in the first half that helped them take a 14-7 lead into the half.
- With Navy at the Maryland 1-yard line halfway through the second quarter, Adrian Moten forced a fumble that Antwine Perez recovered to end Navy's drive.
- After Maryland went three-and-out, the Midshipmen again threatened to score as they drove the Maryland seven. But Perez stopped Dobbs at the 2 on third down and time expired in the first half.
- The Terps had another big stop in the second half. After Navy went on a 13-play, 59-yard drive that to get to the Maryland one, safety Kenny Tate forced a fumble by Dobbs that linebacker Ryan Donohue recovered.
- Maryland came through with its biggest stop on a Navy fourth-and-1 from the Maryland one with just 0:37 to play. Tate came through with the tackle.

First time out: 11 Maryland players saw action for the first time in their careers today: true freshmen Matt Robinson and David Mackall; redshirt freshmen Dexter McDougle, Danny O'Brien, D.J. Adams, Avery Graham, Marcus Whitfield, Bradley Johnson and Dave Stinebaugh; sophomore Ryan Schlothauer; and junior Herbert Law.

Baltz punts and kicks: Travis Baltz had his usually solid game punting, totaling 159 yards on three punts for an average of 53.0 yards per punt. Baltz also was responsible for the place-kicking duties due to Nick Ferrara's injury, and the senior came through. His 26-yard field goal with 7:50 left in the fourth quarter gave Maryland a 17-14 lead. It was the first field goal of Baltz's career. He was also 2-for-2 on PATs.

Wujciak leads again: The senior had a career-high 18 tackles and has now recorded double-digit tackles in 18 of his last 23 games.

Career highs: Kenny Tate recorded a career-high 12 tackles, besting his previous career high of eight (vs. NC State 11/7/09)... sophomore Joe Vellano recorded a career-high 10 tackles (one tackle last season)... Drew Gloster had a career-high seven tackles (previous best three vs. NC State 11/7/09)... Demetrius Hartsfield finished with 12, and his previous career high was 11 vs. Boston College on 11/28/09... Adrian Moten was the fifth Terrapin with double figures in tackles with a dozen.

Tidbits: Maryland's first pass completion didn't come until eight minutes left in the second half... Da'Rel Scott's 58 rushing yards gave him 1,751 in his career, moving him past Keon Lattimore (2004-07) for 14th on Maryland's all-time list... Tony Logan's 57-yard punt return in the third quarter was a career-long for the junior.
