Coaches Review The Battle....
Maryland Head Coach Mark Duffner
"This is about the courage and fight of this football team. These kids did what they had to do for the seniors and this football program. All of the distractions that could have taken the players minds off the game, were put aside and they won this game."
"We are now preparing for a winning season."
"This was a terrific defensive effort, shutting down Georgia Tech's offense, and their running game. We got turnovers when we had to have them."
"Tonight's story is about these kids, not about me."
"I think that we showed the nation that we can compete in the ACC. We made plays when we had to. This was a great team win. We were pretty embarrassed about what happened last year."
"We will start tonight to prepare for Florida State."
Georgia Tech Head Coach George O'Leary
"Give credit to Maryland. They played very hard tonight and got a win.
We had some opportunities in the red zone that we didn't take advantage
of, but it was a well played game by Maryland. We had opportunities, but
we just didn't take advantage of them.
As long as you wake up in the morning, nothing is devastating. We
have two games left to help ourselves and see where our season ends up.
I thought the kids made some plays, but we had too many mistakes in the
red zone that kept us from taking advantage of some field position that
we had because of turnovers. You can't do that in Division I and win
What he said to team:
"Just keep your head up and stay together as a
team. We've got two games left and we have an opportunity to have a
winning record, and that's basically what we want to get done."
Difficulty running the ball:
"We've been having trouble running. I
thought the offensive line from guard to guard wasn't getting any
movement tonight. I thought we threw the ball fairly well, but there
were some opportunities to make catches when we didn't get it done, and
I thought there were protection breakdowns on some of the blitzes. I
don't see it as a devastating loss for Georgia Tech as much as a loss
that narrows the gap as far as how many games we need to win to get to a
bowl game and a winning season."
"He played a good game. Brian was healthy tonight and I
think that's been the difference for Maryland all year, that he's been
banged up. He executed tonight and made some big plays. He was the spark
behind the team from an offensive standpoint."
