The University of Maryland made its sixth trip in eight years under the direction of Ralph Friedgen when it was invited to play in the 2008 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl. The Terps won for the fourth time in five bowl trips with their 42-35 victory over the Wolf Pack.
Maryland has a well-established history of bringing loyal fans in large numbers to postseason games. More than 20,000 supporters travelled to Miami for the 2002 Orange Bowl and more than 15,000 fans went to Atlanta the following season for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. In addition, Maryland had more than 12,000 fans at the 2004 Gator Bowl.
