The Gary Williams Era
June 11, 2008
As he begins his 20th season at Maryland, head basketball coach Gary Williams will build upon an already impressive resume. Williams, a proud alum, inherited a program that had won just nine games and finished last in the ACC prior to his arrival. The Terps posted 19 wins and advanced to the second round of the NIT in 1990, making Williams the first coach in school history to guide the Terrapins to the postseason in his first year on the bench. That was just a sign of things to come as the program reached new heights under Williams including numerous milestones since 2001: 2002 National Champions and No. 1-ranked team in the nation
