As he begins his 20th season at Maryland, head basketball coach Gary Williams will build upon an already impressive resume. In addition to his success on the basketball court, Williams is an active member of the University of Maryland and greater Baltimore-Washington, D.C. community. Williams believes that part of his mission as a coach and representative of the university is to enrich the lives of those in the community. His recent community service work includes:

• President of the National Coaches vs. Cancer for 2008-09
• Recipient of the Coaches vs. Cancer Inspiration Award for 2008
• 2005 Coaches vs. Cancer Champion Award
• Chairman of Montgomery County Autism Speaks for the past four years
• Co-chair of Autism Speaks of Washington D.C.
• Co-char of scholarship component of Maryland's Great Expectations campaign
• Cystic Fibrosis with the Boomer Esiason Foundation
• Terrapin Club speaking engagements each spring
• University of Maryland alumni clubs in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles
• Personal donation for endowed scholarships at the University of Maryland
• 2006 participant in Operation Hardwood in the Persian Gulf
• Guest of honor at the Johnny Holliday charity golf outing
• Keynote speaker at Wegman's Coaches vs. Cancer event in April 2008
• Participant in the inaugural Coaches 4 Character speaking series to benefit the Potential Youth Foundation
