This is Maryland Basketball
There has always been something special about Maryland Basketball.

From Lefty Driesell’s proclamation of building “The UCLA of the East” upon his arrival in 1969 through the consistent success of the program in Gary Williams’ 21 years as head coach, the Terrapins have long been among the nation’s top men’s basketball programs.

Under the direction of Williams, Maryland Basketball has reached heights previously unseen in the school’s history. Taking over a program in 1989 that was facing NCAA sanctions, Williams quickly went to work and turned around the fortunes of a proud program that had hit hard times.

Included among the numerous accomplishments during the Williams Era are:
• 2002 NCAA National Championship
• 2004 ACC Tournament Championship
• 2010 ACC Regular-Season Championship
• 2002 ACC Regular-Season Championship
• Consecutive Trips to the Final Four (2001, 2002)
• Seven Sweet 16 appearances
• A school-record 17 straight postseason appearances (1994-present)
• A school-record 11 straight NCAA Tournament appearances (1994-2004)

With first-class facilities, a rich tradition, All-America performers, and a determination to overcome all obstacles, Maryland Basketball has assumed its rightful place as one of the nation’s truly elite programs.
