GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kyle Convissar, Brett Harman and Jimmy Reed of the University of Maryland baseball team have been selected to the 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Baseball Team, the league announced Tuesday.
Harman, who completed his eligibility last season, is a three-time selection, while Convissar was selected for the second time in his two seasons in College Park. Reed, a rising senior, is a first-time selection.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Harman graduated with a degree in kinesiology and was the leader of a pitching staff that finished third in the ACC in ERA (3.21). The Westminster, Md., native went 6-4 with a 3.04 ERA and a team-high 73 strikeouts on the season.
Convissar, a finance major, started 54 games at second base and finished fifth on the team with a .285 batting average, along with a team-high 36 runs. His 13 doubles were second on the team.
A journalism major, Reed led the team with a 2.70 ERA in 20 appearances, six of them starts. The lefty had a team-high eight saves and held opponents to a .226 batting average in 60 innings.
Harman and Convissar are two of nine ACC student-athletes that were also Capital One Academic All-District selections in 2012.
