Maryland Baseball Announces Summer League Placements
June 5, 2008
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Headlined by third baseman Mike Murphy's inclusion in the prestigious Cape Cod League, the University of Maryland baseball program has released its summer league placements. A total of 17 Maryland baseball players will participate in various summer leagues, led by Murphy. Murphy led the Terps with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs, earning him a place on the Orleans Cardinals' roster. Last season's winningest pitcher, Scott Swinson, will play in the Cal Ripken Sr. League for the second consecutive season. Swinson, who threw the sixth no-hitter in school history last season, was named the top pitcher in the Ripken League a season ago. Swinson will play for Youse's Maryland Orioles in the Ripken League. Swinson will oppose pitching teammates Nathan Steelman and Brett Jones in the league, both of whom will pitch for the College Park Bombers. Seven Terps will represent Maryland in the New York Collegiate Baseball League and four more will play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, including AJ Casario and Will Greenberg. Relief pitchers Dan Gentzler and Blair Delean round out the list of Maryland summer league participants. Gentzler will play in the Valley Baseball League and Delean will play in the Coastal Plains League. 2008 Maryland Summer League Placements Cape Cod League 3B Mike Murphy - Orleans Cardinals Cal Ripken Sr. League RHP Scott Swinson - Youse's Maryland Orioles
