Terps Get Set For Summer Baseball
May 24, 2007 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - While the Maryland baseball team's 2007 regular season has come to a close, many Terrapins will have just a short break before returning to the diamond to work on their game and hone their skills. Many of head coach Terry Rupp's players will compete this summer in a number of collegiate baseball leagues, many of which attract top-quality college talent and keen attention from professional scouts. "The biggest advantage is that they come back to school a better player," said assistant coach Carmen Carcone, who is responsible for summer league placement for Terps players. "They come back with much more confidence and more maturity. It is healthy for them to get away, to be on their own and play in a competitive wooden bat league." Carcone, who is in his third year as a part of Maryland baseball, has extensive experience in summer baseball. After winning the Cape Cod League title with the Orleans Cardinals in 2003, Carcone was a unanimous selection for the Cape's Coach of the Year award. Before the players depart College Park for their summer experiences, though, he has some words of advice and encouragement. "I always tell the players they have four objectives in the summer: come back to school a better player; gain professional attention from scouts; experience and develop new relationships; and play a part in helping the summer organization be successful," he explained. Below is a list of Terps who will participate in summer baseball leagues.
