COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball teams plays host to the Hofstra Pride of the Colonial Athletic Association in a four-game series at Shipley Field this weekend.

Maryland (1-3) is coming into the series on a two-game losing streak while the Pride have yet to play this season due to weather postponements. The Terps and Pride do not have much of a history, having played each other only once, a 6-5 Maryland win in 1967.

The series begins at 3 p.m. Friday with sophomore Scott Swinson (Ellicott City, Md./George Washington University) taking the mound for the Terps. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday. The first game will start at noon with the second beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Sophomore Ian Schwalenberg (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and senior Kevin Biringer (Albuquerque, N.M./Bradley University) will start the Saturday games. Junior Jensen Pupa (Germantown, Md./Northwest) will start the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Pride will throw three left-handed starters at the Terps: Anthony Sarno, Brody Fontaine and Nick Panzarella.

Hofstra's offensive attack is led by reigning CAA Rookie of the Year Matt Prokopowicz, who hit a school-record .416 last season, earning Freshman All-American honors from Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball.

Hofstra was predicted to finish 11th out of 11 teams in the CAA's preseason poll.
