COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After playing four of its first five games on the road, the University of Maryland baseball team returns home to the friendly confines of Shipley Field this weekend for a three-game series with the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Game times are set for 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

The Terrapins opened the season last weekend at UNC Wilmington, dropping all three games of the three-game series to the Seahawks. Earlier this week, the Terps knocked off Coppin State, 16-1, in their home opener before falling 5-1 Wednesday at James Madison.

The Bobcats are opening the 2009 season this weekend. Quinnipiac is predicted to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference this season. This weekend marks the first-ever meetings between the two programs.

Quinnipiac will throw a trio of senior starting pitchers on the mound this weekend. Junior Ian Schwalenberg gets the start Friday and will face southpaw Chris Gloor, who was drafted by the Detroit Tigers after last season. Terrapin ace Scott Swinson will make his first start of the season Saturday afternoon and Sunday's start will go to freshman lefty Matt Fullerton or freshman righty Sander Beck.

Maryland's offense has been paced early on by upperclassmen Gerry Spessard, Will Greenberg, Mike Moss and A.J. Casario, all of whom are hitting over .300 heading into the weekend.

Live audio of all three games will be available online at WMUCSports.com.
