COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A trio of Terps earned preseason All-ACC honors from SEBaseball.com this week, led by junior outfielder Justin Maxwell's first-team selection. Maxwell was recognized by the publication for the second straight year, while senior Will Frazier and junior Matt Maropis, both second-team choices, each earned their first selections.

For Maxwell, it was his second preseason honor, having been recognized earlier in the month as a second-team preseason All-American by Baseball America. The outfielder is widely recognized as one of the nation's top players and returns to the Maryland lineup after missing all of the 2004 season with a fractured right ulna. In 2003, his last full season, Maxwell led the Terrapins in batting (.317), runs scored (37), home runs (10), stolen bases (11) and slugging percentage (.550).

Frazier is coming off a career year in 2004 in which he hit .360, had a .591 slugging average and a .415 on-base percentage. He enters the 2005 season sixth on the school's all-time list with 43 career doubles and ninth with 24 career home runs. He, along with Maxwell, will be part of what figures to be a prolific Maryland outfield that also includes junior Brian Jarosinski and senior Truan Mehl.

Maropis also had a breakout season a year ago, finishing ninth in the ACC with a .353 and fourth with four triples. He also stole 13 bases in 14 attempts and led the team with 41 hits and 53 total bases in conference play. He returns for his junior year as a likely starter at multiple infield positions and should be counted on at the top of Maryland lineup.

The Terps open their season Feb. 12 and 13 in Rock Hill, S.C. where they take on No. 28/25 Winthrop and Western Kentucky in the Coca Cola Classic. The two games are part of an eight-game February road swing before opening up the newly-renovated Shipley Field at the beginning of March.
