Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Georgia Tech.Terps drop first game 3-2, win second 4-1.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland and Georgia Tech split a doubleheader today at Shipley Field, with the Yellow Jackets winning game one, 3-2, and Maryland taking the night cap, 4-1. In the first game, Georgia Tech's Bryan Prince was involved in all three of the Yellow Jackets' runs as he went 4-5 at the plate with two runs scored and hit the game-winning home run in the top of the ninth inning with two outs. Prince recorded an RBI in the third inning with a ground out that scored Jay Hood, giving Tech a 1-0 lead. Maryland tied the game in the fourth inning when Larry Long reached base on a throwing error by Heath Honeycutt and scored three batters later on a Scott Bronowicz single. Tech took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Prince scored with two outs on a Stephen Donaghey single, but the Terps responded in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back doubles by Brian Patenaude and Adam Ross that tied the game at 2-2. Maryland's Joe Hart came in relief in the sixth inning and allowed only three hits entering the ninth inning. Hart retired Scott Prather and Heath Honeycutt to open the ninth before Prince hit his fourth home run of the season, giving Tech the 3-2 win. Tech starter Chuck Crowder faced two batters in the eighth inning before Jase Wrigley entered the game. Wrigley faced nine batters and allowed one hit in two innings to earn his fifth win of the season. In the second game, the Terp pitching staff held Georgia Tech scoreless for the last six innings of the seven inning game. Tech scored its only run on a Jay Hood home run in the first inning off Maryland starter Jamie Hammond. Tied 1-1, Maryland's Larry Long provided a two RBI single to right field in the second inning off Tech starter Cory Vance. Maryland's fourth run of the game scored when Brian Patenaude tripled in the third inning to plate Casey Trout. Maryland reliever Mike Ginsberg pitched 2.2 innings to earn his third save of the season.
Maryland and Georgia Tech conclude the three-game series tomorrow at Shipley Field with a 1:00 p.m. start.
