Baseball Pounds Out 25 Hits in Win

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland offense pounded out 25 hits in its 22-2 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore this evening at Shipley Field. The win improves the Terps' record to 20-22-1, while the Hawks fall to 6-38.

The Terps sent at least nine batters to the plate in the first, fifth, seventh and eighth innings. Second baseman Chris Blue led the Terps with five hits, including a solo home run and two doubles. Scott Bronowicz and Larry Long also hit homers, Bronowicz's coming in the fourth inning, a two-run shot, while Long led off the seventh inning with a solo homer, his second of the season. Five Terps, including Long, Blue, Jason Mohap, Adam Ross and J.R. Thomas recorded at least three hits. In all, the Terps recorded eight extra base hits in the game.

Jamie Hammond pitched three innings to earn his fourth win of the season. Hammond allowed one run on two hits and struck out three batters.

The Terps will next be in action this weekend as the Duke Blue Devils visit Shipley Field for a three-game ACC series. The Terps and Blue Devils will play Friday (7:00 p.m.), Saturday (7:00 p.m.) and conclude the series on Sunday (1:00 p.m.).
