Baseball Falls 5-1 to Wolfpack
March 15, 1998 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - NC State scored three runs in the fifth inning off Maryland starter Brandon Agamennone as the Wolfpack went on to defeat the Terps 5-1 this afternoon at Shipley Field. NC State's Kurt Blackmon pitched a complete game to earn his fourth win of the season. In the fifth inning, Craig Lee led off with a single and scored on a Matt Postell double to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead. Keith Walsh then doubled with one out to score Postell and a Brian Ward single scored Walsh to give NC State a 3-0 lead. The Terps manufactured a run in the eighth inning as Chris Blue led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a Casey Trout double. Frank Valois then grounded out to first base to score Blue. NC State's other two runs came in the eighth inning as an Agamennone throwing error to first base scored Ward and Brad Piercey. NC State starter Kurt Blackmon struckout a career-high 15 batters and scattered seven hits.
