Baseball Drops to WolfpackTerps lose 14-4.March 14, 1998 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - NC State scored six unearned runs in the first inning and the Wolfpack defeated Maryland 14-4 this afternoon at Shipley Field. NC State improves to 14-5 overall and the Terps fall to 4-10. Jammie Hammond suffered the loss for the Terps and Rodney Ormond gained the victory for the Wolfpack. With runners on first and second, Jake Weber reached first base on an error to load the bases in the top of the first inning. Jimmy Slaughter scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Maher and Adrean Acevedo singled to score Weber and Brian Ward. A Todd DeMakes single loaded the bases and Josh Ballard hit a double to chase home three runs. In the bottom of the third, Maryland scored two runs as Larry Long reached on catcher's interference and a Casey Trout double advanced Long to third. Frank Valois then grounded out to score Long and a Jason Mohap single then scored Trout. With the score 10-4, NC State scored four runs in the eighth inning as Acevedo homered to right field with one out. With runners on first and second, Ballard hit his third double of the game to score Matt Postell and Keith Walsh. The series concludes tomorrow with a 1:00 pm start at Shipley Field.
