COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Blair Delean recorded eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings and Maryland used timely hitting and base-running to defeat Towson 4-2 Wednesday at Shipley Field at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.

The Terps scored two runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie. Adam Kolarek led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Jack Cleary. A combination of two wild pitches and a balk eventually allowed Kolarek and Cleary to score as Maryland took a 3-1 lead.

Maryland added an insurance run in the sixth. Tyler Bennett singled to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mike Rozak. Matthew Murakami knocked in the run with a single to right field.

Delean (1-0) earned the win for Maryland (2-6), establishing career-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts. Brett Harman pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, not allowing a base runner. Dan Gentzler struck out two in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

Volpe (0-1) pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up two earned runs on three walks in the loss for Towson (1-7).

Maryland welcomes Hofstra this weekend for a three-game set starting Friday at 3 p.m.
